Description

I haven't drawn a SATBK related pic for a while, and I wanted to try a different art technique, so I drew this randomly.

I also wanted to edit Guinevere's (Sky's) outfit, complete with several armour parts.

I am actually going to go back in time and critique an old piece in many ways (style/ medium/ originality/ect), because there are many, MANY things I love about it in contrast to currently (so bear with me).

My SATBK Story- Lady Guinevere by Sky-The-Echidna <-- Here is the piece in question, so you don't have to wonder what the heck I'm talking about. XD

I really love this piece of Sky--I loved this IDEA of Sky from the pieces I've seen on and off from you. Her anatomy makes wonderful sense as does her outfit. When I compare it to the stuff I've seen lately, her breast are just...a trouble spot. ^^; Here, they are perfect--her figure is perfect for her size and and as perfect as can be for Sonic anatomy. In later images, her chest is really big, and then they dip down into a the 'Barbie doll' figure you get complaints on and off about. It is okay for women to be beautiful and curvy, but not TOO curvy that they look as though they'll snap in half. ^^; If you want her chest to be bigger, the body will have to go with it, but if this is the style you're struggling to maintain, well--I do hope you find it again. Look at this piece again and see if you can't redo it another way, or perhaps, doodle her like this on and off.

I also love the dynamic shot we have her in. She's not giving the camera the goo-goo eyes, she's not acting provocative, and, what I love most about it: she's not a damsel in distress.

I know in the latest comic, she has to be in distress to move the plot along, but it seems that's the prime plot of every comic (and heck, even art piece) you put her in. Believe me, I understand the desire to want to be rescued by 'Prince charming' as does everyone else, but it feels counterproductive to say Sky is this amazing warrior/creation, and she's always being rescued by Sonic or Shadow or someone else. If you want her to be taken seriously as a well renowned fighter, let her rescue someone else for a change. She can still be put in the spotlight as being the heroine. Just look at this amazing work you did: Battle- Guinevere vs Lancelot by Sky-The-Echidna Are you to tell me that's the same Sky who is always bleeding/ sweating/ in trouble? She's in a dress, that is extremely dignified for her title and kicking butt! Shadow's butt of all things~! Those are the sort of images I like to see more of and the sort of Sky I like to see more of. Not the one where everyone's fawning over her and saying how perfect she is, and not the one where she's in trouble--I suggest changing it up and showing what her true power is in combat and that she doesn't need a man to rescue her.

Another thing I love about it: her outfit. Her outfit makes perfect sense compared to that bikini two-piece she ended up in in the main story. Outside of the Guinevere plot, I really loved this one: Collab- Sky (Coloured) by Sky-The-Echidna She's still sexy, but she's covered up--ready for some action, and I LOVE that one sleeve thing she has going on. Same for this one: Sky Alternative Outfit 01 by Sky-The-Echidna These outfits make sense. Sky's a fighter (at least, that's her portrayal, I believe), and while I myself adore women characters and have a soft spot for the reveal/pin-up stuff, I only like it every now and again; otherwise, it can become repetitive, and it's not as jaw dropping/sexy anymore. The Boom outfit makes sense as, from what I can see, it's mostly desert and or tropical jungle, that can get quite muggy, so I know a two piece would probably be ideal for her out in that climate. As for the one she's in now where it looks like you cut up most of that first outfit...well...I do hope it returns. It looks great on her, and I feel it suits her.

I know you juggle the idea on and off again at going digital, and while a lot of people around you may try to push the digital medium on you, know that your traditional skills are really good and topnotch! You add depth and interesting details to certain things that most people aren't sure how you did with traditional medium. Once again, that Shadow vs Sky image--the action blur there--that's not something I would be able to think of how to do in a million years without the add of my digital skills, and it looks fantastic. (And I am not gonna comment about the blurriness we get on some of these images in general, because that's the camera/scanner's fault--not your own.)

All and all, I really like Sky. She's a simple, lovely design, and she has an interesting setup and creative background, but the problem areas still continue:

1) Anatomy. Watch that Barbie Doll figure. This one is just perfect--it compliments her size well, and she's still beautiful.
2) Damsel in Distressing: There is such a thing as too much. Swap the cards here--do more of Sky being a fighter, or heck, do this comic~! I want to see Sky be the one where she's a fighter Princess and yet struggling with the idea of whose heart to take and whose to break. (Maybe she ends up with Shadow this time)
3) Outfits. Personal opinion: I still love that full blue suit she wears outside of Sonic Boom time zone! It just makes sense for her trade, and, if you're looking for the 'sexy two-piece look', remember: you still have Sora who is a Goddess and usually used magic to keep up with her enemies and or was a celestial being who didn't have a physical body to worry for (unless I missed something there).
4) Balance: And when I say, balance, I mean balance her out. She teeters a bit on the Mary-Sue railing, but as they say: Even Mary-Sues have potential, and Sky has a lot of potential! Show her powers now. You've shown enough of her weaknesses and you've shown a lot of her love life. Let's see a bit more casual stuff: fighting/ eating out/ at the beach/ running into the face of danger/ a wicked vampress/ ect. Let's see some action! Remember also: she's not going to solve every problem, as that would be illogical. Let her fail once in awhile. Have a character randomly get mad at her. Heck, even Amy couldn't stand Sally when she and Sonic were together, but Amy seemed to warm right up to Sky, and that felt a bit much there. It's okay for some of the Sonic characters to not like her (if even for a moment)--she still will have those who care about her, and that should matter most. Even in the VIRUS comic, she was 'immune' to being a vampire. I mean, that would have been awesome to actually see her become a vampress and Sonic working on finding a cure with her.

I'd say only 4 issues aren't bad. ^^ If anything, you work hard, and you do a fantastic job on your work--just need to keep up with those few issues and work your way into making Sky even more amazing, I feel. I hope you'll take the thoughts into consideration. Keep up the good work~
